Accelerated Readers
At Winchell Elementary, we have a program called Accelerated Reader.  Students and teachers use this program to help students develop and meet semester reading goals.  At the beginning of the year, students are given a test which determines the level they are reading at.  They have to read books which are labeled in their level.  After each book, the student has to take an online test on the book they read.  If they earn three grades of 90 percent or higher, they are able to move up a level.

On Friday, January 25th, Winchell Elementary had a school-wide celebration of the students meeting their accelerated reader goals.  They were rewarded with a school-wide read-in.  Students were invited to bring in blankets and pillows.  Many came to school in their pajamas.  Students read the entire afternoon and were given a snack of milk and cookies!
