My Teaching Philosophy

Students, like everyone else, need to be treated with respect. I feel that if nothing else, respect is the main thing that has to be achieved in a student-teacher relationship. If students know they are respected, they know that they are safe and can feel free to explore their ideas and communicate them freely. It is only in this free exchange of ideas that learning can take place.

I love watching the students as they finally grasp the concept I am teaching. They get a look of surprised excitement in their eyes as if to say, "hey, I can do this!" I love getting to know each of the children individually and finding ways to incorporate who they are into the classroom. I know that when I am teaching, I am not just teaching a subject or a concept, I am teaching a child.
